Founded in 1995 and recognized as Broadway’s “original” summer camp, Camp Broadway® is a trusted source for year-round youth enrichment programs, experiential events, and educational workshops. As the architect of several theater industry youth programs and working in partnership with Broadway shows, leading performing arts centers, and global arts brands, Camp Broadway has helped define the gold standard for professional, authorized musical theater programming for amateurs. Camp Broadway is the recipient of a Special Drama Desk Award for its decades-long work in building theatre audiences and artists. Visit www.campbroadway.com for more information.

Based on Camp Broadway’s award-winning methodology, Camp Broadway MyWay is a 40-hour arts enrichment program that can be easily offered at any time throughout the year. The schedule allows for flexibility and customization based on the needs of the presenting organization. Across a uniquely formatted rehearsal process, the content is designed to promote the development of life skills through the process of learning the fundamentals of musical theater. The program culminates in a live showcase featuring an ensemble performance of approved songs and scenes from a beloved Broadway show.

This authentic and all-inclusive theatrical program is designed by Broadway professionals for traditional camps, summer and after-school enrichment providers, community organizations, dance studios, and others interested in presenting high-quality performing arts programming. The program has been constructed to be an engaging and informative introduction to musical theater for any child interested in exploring their creativity and honing their presentation skills.

Camp Broadway is proud to be partnering with Musical Theatre International (MTI) to introduce this new turn-key enrichment program. Unlike MTI’s catalogue of Junior, Kids and Teen productions, which highlight several leading characters, Camp Broadway MyWay shines the spotlight on the Ensemble. Alongside two featured players, which can be staff members or selected performers from your group, the Ensemble is the driving force that tells the story through dialogue excerpts and selected songs. In addition to learning performing arts disciplines in acting, singing and dancing, the program focuses on the development of essential social and emotional skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking and more!

Based on Camp Broadway’s long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality youth programming, the authors of our featured musicals have approved the selection of songs and scenes featured in our MyWay scripts. Securing their permission means that your organization is presenting an authorized version of a copyright-protected work.

Camp Broadway MyWay has been designed to provide your organization with flexibility around scheduling, workshops, educational extensions, direction and choreography and design elements. The only aspect of the program that cannot be altered is the approved songs and scenes featured in the Camp Broadway MyWay scripts.

Putting on a show is an opportunity for creative kids to display their unique talents, develop their interpersonal skills and demonstrate their ability to work collaboratively towards a common goal. Most importantly, the process of mounting a show is a fun way to make friends, try new things and learn invaluable lessons that will last a lifetime. Class instruction in acting, dancing/movement, singing/music, character development, writing, stagecraft, and other creativity-promoting activities, culminates in a 25-minute musical revue where every member of the ensemble has a moment to shine. Our author-authorized show includes:

● an exclusive prologue and epilogue to set the scene for the audience,

● approximately 75-100 lines of dialogue,

● five musical theatre production numbers, and

● an original showcase musical finale that celebrates the fun that kids have had and the community they have created throughout this theatre experience.

Classes can be taught in any open space (classroom, cafeteria, or large lobby) over five consecutive days, or as a series of 45- or 90-minute sessions taught over many weeks. The program culminates in a musical theater showcase that can also be performed in a large open space.

The overarching goal for Camp Broadway MyWay is to help build a national community of theater arts enrichment providers. In addition to all the program materials, you will also receive ongoing communications through our new theater arts enrichment e-newsletter featuring discounts from partner organizations and opportunities for professional development for you and your staff, as well as access to our online Facebook Group.

In addition to administrative and production materials, Camp Broadway MyWay includes a variety of standards-aligned lesson plans, supplemental worksheets for in-class and at-home activities and resources that educators can use to illuminate the themes and storylines of our featured MyWay show titles.

Camp Broadway has collaborated with leading educators to design an evaluation rubric that will enable your organization to access the program’s overall impact and effectiveness, as well as share information about the program with your administrators and/or funders. It will help measure the social, emotional and life-skills learned by the participants as a direct result of their involvement in the program. Camp Broadway also invites you to share your evaluation with us so we can continue to improve on the content and methodology

NO previous theater experience is necessary to successfully participate! Camp Broadway MyWay is an ensemble-focused program that features easy to learn content and accessible activities that can be enjoyed by all participants regardless of skill.

Camp Broadway MyWay has been developed to support the needs of today’s busy program administrators, educators, and camp staff. By providing your organization with authorized and professionally produced materials, your preparation time is efficient and minimal. Content can be taught as is or enhanced based on the experience of the staff and/or the skill level of the participants. Camp Broadway MyWay can be presented in as few as 32-40 hours or expanded to include additional supplemental materials based on the needs of the organization.

Like other academic, sports or creative disciplines, we recommend that Camp Broadway MyWay be led by adults with some basic onstage or backstage experience, ideally in performance or music. To augment the knowledge of your staff, a team of theater professionals and educators have created a step-by-step blueprint to set your organization up for success! Experienced theater teachers will find many opportunities to add their own ideas while taking full advantage of all the program has to offer.
